Karthik & Priya

Karthik and Priya met at a Tamil cultural association event in Scarborough in 2021. Their wedding blended two South Indian family traditions - Karthik's family from Jaffna and Priya's family from Chennai - into one harmonious three-day celebration.

The Mehndi evening opened the celebrations with intricate South Indian henna patterns applied by a specialist flown in from Toronto. The Haldi the following morning was held in the family's backyard, intimate and joyful.

The Tamil wedding ceremony itself was a four-hour ritual at a temple hall in Scarborough. The kanyadaan, tying of the thali, and exchange of garlands were conducted with full traditional honours. The reception that evening featured a fusion dinner - both Sri Lankan and South Indian cuisine - and a DJ set that mixed Tamil film classics with Bollywood hits.
